Privacy
Reeda is a desktop app that reads selected text aloud. This page explains exactly what data moves where. It is written for people, not lawyers; a formal policy will replace it before Pro launches.
What the app touches
- The text you select. When you press the hotkey, Reeda asks the active app for the current selection. If the app doesn't answer, Reeda briefly copies the selection and restores your clipboard afterwards.
- Voice synthesis. With the built-in system voice, the text is spoken on your machine and never leaves it. With a natural voice, the selected text is sent over TLS to the voice provider you configured (currently ElevenLabs, using your own API key) to be converted to audio. Their handling of that request is governed by their policy. Reeda does not store the text or the audio beyond a local cache you can clear.
- Settings. Your hotkey, voice choice, speed and API key are stored in a local settings file on your computer. Your API key is never sent anywhere except to the provider it belongs to.
Who processes data, and why
- Supabase (US-East): your account email, plan, and monthly hosted-voice usage counts. Row-level security means only you can read your own rows.
- Resend: sends the sign-in code email to the address you enter. Nothing else.
- ElevenLabs: receives the selected text to turn it into audio, only when you choose a natural voice. Your own key today; ours with Pro later.
- Anonymous health and crash reports, stored in our own Supabase project: app version, operating system, a random install id, daily read counts, and error messages with file names and line numbers. Never the text you read, never your keys, never your email. Turn it off in Settings → Startup & privacy.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website and the app downloads, with standard server logs.
Your rights
Email hello@reeda.ai to see, export, or delete everything tied to your account or install id. We answer within 7 days and delete within 30. Local data (settings, history, stats) lives in your user profile and is removed by uninstalling the app and deleting the Reeda folder in AppData.
What the app does not do
- No password to remember: sign-in is an emailed code or Google. The account holds only your email and plan.
- No microphone access and no screen recording.
- No analytics on what you read. The optional health ping carries counts only.
- No advertising, and we don't sell or share data.
Permissions
Reeda asks for the Accessibility permission (macOS) or runs a keyboard listener (Windows) so it can respond to a global hotkey and read the current selection. That is the only reason it needs them.
This website
If you join the beta list, we store the email address and platform preferences you enter, and use them only to tell you about Reeda builds and the Pro launch. Email hello@reeda.ai to be removed at any time. Signing in on the site stores a session in your browser's local storage; there are no advertising or analytics cookies.
